Gandhara Statue of the Buddha in a Sitting Position the 3rd century
- Hirayama Ikuo
- 1984
- Water color
- 98.5×63.0cm
This work depicts the sitting statue of Gandhara that Meiko Hirayama, Hirayama Ikuo's wife and head of the museum, bought for her deceased mother. The purchase of the statue is said to be an opportunity for Hirayma couple to establish the Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum. Hirayama often drew sketches of the collections, and he said,"Appreciating the unearthed objects at hand, I feel the sense of history, and the color and texture are very decorous and sharp. The sense of history and the cultivation of sensibility make an excellent painter."
