The Mediterranean

Because of the geographical environment, Greece and the ancient Mediterranean world surrounding it formed their own culture while accepting other cultures. Ancient Greek art absorbed the advanced civilizations of the East and Egypt, and inherited the traditions of Minos and Mycenaean civilizations. It made great progress in sculpture, architecture, painting, and other fields and formed classical art which became a model of beauty.
After the extinction of ancient Greek civilization, Greek classical art was inherited by the Roman Empire, and then became the source of Western art. But the influence of Greek art is not confined to European art. With Alexander the Great’s Eastern Expedition and the expansion of the Roman Empire, the traditions of Greek and Roman art were introduced from West Asia to India and Central Asia, which became the origin of the Silk Road art represented by Gandhara Buddha.
