In the court of the Persian Achaemenid Dynasty, which established a great empire in the East, many luxurious vessels were made of metal and used for feasts. Rhytons decorated with pictures of herbivorous, like this piece, were also popular. There is a hole between the animal's forefeet, from which wine could be poured in.
