  • Central Asia
  • Bactria, Afghanistan
  • 1st century AD
  • The Greco-Bactrian Kingdom
  • gold and turquoise
  • 10.0cm in height

The statue of a little golden deer inlaid with turquoise (some are incomplete). It looks similar to the gold products of the mid 1st century found in Bactria and Tillya Tepe. After Alexander the Great's Eastern Expedition, Greek colonial cities appeared in Bactria. The Greek culture took root there (the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, from the mid 3rd century BC to the mid 2nd century BC). Although it was later invaded by the Parthian Empire and the nomadic people, the Kushan Dynasty arose around the 1st century AD.
