The krater is a large widemouthed wine jar used in banquets. People added water to the wine and mixed it with spices, honey, and rosin before serving the guests. (In ancient Greece, it was considered barbaric to drink wine directly without mixing it.) On the one side is a picture depicting people giving good wishes to the couple in a carriage (the wedding procession), and on the opposite side is a picture of young men and women training on the playground.
