Hirayama Ikuo said,"Around 1970 when I traveled to Afghanistan, men who spent a lot of time drinking tea and chatting in teahouses became the best models for my paintings. The old men with white beard had their own style, and they were just like a painting just by sitting there. I drew portraits of countless people then. In retrospect, it was the time in peace in Afghanistan.
