Water Pot(Black Painted Vessel)

  • The Mediterranean
  • Corinth, Greece
  • 610-590 BC
  • The Archaic Period
  • pottery
  • 41.5cm in height

The water pot was made in Corinth. It was also used to pour wine into glasses. Lions, oxes, goats, and birds were painted on its surface by using black drawing techniques. From the shape of the water pot that imitates metal utensils and the patterns of carnivores and herbivores, we could see the profound influence from ancient Western Asian art such as that of Assyria.
